The Craft Behind Ruby Glass

True ruby glass was historically produced by melting gold chloride directly into molten glass. During the 19th century, Bohemian workshops revolutionised the industry by introducing copper compounds to achieve similarly rich, deep crimson hues at greater scale. While English factories — particularly in the celebrated Stourbridge region — produced softer "cranberry" variants, the intense wine-red base and bold enamel decoration seen here are hallmarks of the finest Victorian-era glasswork.
