The Alchemy of Ruby Glass: True ruby glass was historically made by melting gold chloride directly into molten glass batches. During the 19th century, Bohemian workshops revolutionized the industry by using more affordable copper compounds to create similarly deep, dramatic crimson and ruby hues.
Design & Origins: While English factories (particularly in the Stourbridge region) produced softer, pinkish "cranberry" variants, the deep, dark wine-red ruby base and opaque enamel floral paintings shown here are classic markers of Bohemian (Czech) and English Victorian artistry from circa 1860–1890
