This ceramic pitcher appears to be a lovely example of blue and white transferware, a style that was extremely popular in England, particularly among the Staffordshire potters, starting in the late 18th century. The decoration, which features a detailed pastoral or farm scene with a wagon and horses, is applied by transferring an engraved image onto the pottery before it is glazed and fired, a process that allowed for the mass production of finely detailed wares. The rich cobalt blue print contrasted against the white earthenware, along with the decorative border on the rim, gives it a classic, highly collectible aesthetic often associated with English country or farmhouse style that remains popular today.
