Few pieces of furniture speak as eloquently of English refinement as the demi-lune console table — and this exceptional Edwardian example is among the finest of its kind. Inspired by the great Neoclassical designers of the late 18th century, Hepplewhite and Sheraton, it brings the grace of the Georgian drawing room into any interior fortunate enough to receive it.
The crowning glory is the inset leather top: a deep oxblood surface hand-tooled with an intricate border of gilt foliate scrollwork and chain motifs, framed by concentric gilt line borders — the work of a craftsman who understood that the finest details are always the ones you discover slowly. The satinwood crossbanding that frames the leather, and the richly figured veneer of the apron below, complete a surface of extraordinary visual richness.
Four slender reeded and tapered legs — the very signature of Hepplewhite elegance — carry the piece with effortless lightness, their spade feet barely touching the floor. Against a wall in an entrance hall, behind a sofa in a drawing room, or as a statement piece in a study, this table transforms every space it inhabits.
An heirloom-quality piece of English cabinetmaking — as beautiful today as the day it was made.
