A characterful studio pottery plate by Leonard Stockley of Weymouth, Dorset, dating to circa the 1960s–1970s. The expressive hand-painted cockerel is rendered in deep brown and black slips against a warm honey-toned glazed ground, giving the piece a bold mid-century folk-art presence.

The fluid, economical brushwork captures the bird with energy and charm. On the reverse, the natural red earthenware body is left unglazed and carries the hand-incised inscription “L. Stockley, Weymouth, 6.”
