The cylindrical ceramic body sits in an elegant footed silver-plated (EPNS) stand, complete with a matching silver-plated lid and a swinging bale handle — a practical and decorative piece that would have graced many a fine English drawing room.

The Imari Tradition

The Imari pattern originates from Japanese export porcelain of the 17th and 18th centuries, characterised by its rich palette of underglaze cobalt blue, iron-red, and lavish gold gilding. English potteries — including Royal Crown Derby, Wedgwood, and Minton — enthusiastically adopted and adapted this style throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, producing some of the most sought-after decorative wares of the era.
