This is a Victorian-era walnut work table (often called a "trumpet" or sewing table), dating to the mid-to-late 19th century (c. 1860–1880). It features a striking burr walnut veneer top with delicate floral marquetry or stringing inlay and opens to reveal a well-organized interior with peripheral compartments and a central deep "well"—originally designed to hold fabric, yarn, and sewing notions. The base is characteristic of the High Victorian period, featuring a turned and carved central pedestal supported by four cabriole legs with acanthus leaf carvings and original ceramic casters. While common in English and European households of the time, this specific example is particularly elegant due to the rich "book-matched" grain on the underside of the lid and its excellent state of preservation.
