This is a beautiful antique fish serving set / Pastry serving set comprised of a matching serving knife and fork housed in their original silk-lined presentation box.
The set was manufactured by Atkin Brothers, a prominent silversmithing firm based at the Truro Works on Matilda Street in Sheffield, England. Their flatware often features the distinctive maker's stamp "HA EA FA", which stands for the three brothers who ran the business: Harry Wright Atkin, Edward Thomas Atkin, and Frank Shaw Atkin
Key Features of this Set:
- Blades & Prongs: Made of silver plate (often marked EPNS for Electroplated Nickel Silver), intricately hand-engraved with fine Victorian or Edwardian floral and foliage motifs.
- Handles: Made from ivorine (also known as faux bone or xylonite), a popular early celluloid material designed to look like ivory.
- Ferrules/Bolsters: The ornate metal bands connecting the blades to the handles are typically hallmarked sterling silver.
- Based on the visual style, manufacturing hallmarks, and materials used, this set was made during the late Victorian or early Edwardian era, specifically between 1890 and 1910.
