A historically engaging Wedgwood blue-and-white transferware plate commemorating the 150th anniversary, 1799–1949, of the Peabody Museum of Salem, Massachusetts.

The central scene depicts the Brig Cruger, a 154-ton ship owned by prominent Salem merchant Elias Hasket Derby in 1799 and 1800. The image is based on a watercolour by Michele Felice Corne held by the museum.

A richly detailed border features the house flags used as private signals by twelve of Salem’s commercial houses, connecting the design to the city’s celebrated maritime trading history.
