1885 Staffordshire figuring of a royal couple
1885 Staffordshire figuring of a royal couple
This pottery figure is of a Scottish couple sitting, the man holding bag pipes. There is a fake clock painted underneath the seated figures. This was made in the Staffordshire region around 1850 as a decorative piece for the fire place mantle. The statue measures approximately 13 5/8" tall, 8 1/2" wide, and 2 7/8" thick at the base. This is in very good condition. There is crazing and some surface wear, and a few surface flakes. There are a couple small stress cracks, possibly just to the surface. One is on the back, and one on the side, near the base. There are some production flaws; very small lines where the clay separated. There are no chips or repairs. It is fine quality and weighs about 3 pounds 5 ounces.
