Antique Mason ironstone plant pot
Antique Mason ironstone plant pot
This is a very good large bowl or flower pot made by Mason's Ironstone, England in possibly in the early to mid 19th century Early Mason's bowls of this size and shape tend to be rare. The bowl makes a good display piece or flower pot with many possible uses. This bowl has one of the chinoiserie patterns showing oriental figures, gardens, florals birds, houses, sailboats, bridges and more! The handle of the pitcher has a pattern of small leaves and pretty florals and it all looks quite majestic !
The base of the bowl has a large blue printed crown and banner mark, with Mason's above, together with a straight line impressed mark; " MASON'S PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA", which dates this piece to the Late Georgian period circa 1815-1820 as per my research on the internet.
Transfer ware is a style of ceramics including pottery which uses transfer printing, a decorative technique which was developed in England in the 18th century, particularly around the Staffordshire region.
