This decorative plate is a piece of blue and white transferware made by Wedgwood to commemorate the 150th Anniversary (1799–1949) of the Peabody Museum of Salem, Massachusetts. The central image depicts the Brig Cruger, a ship of 154 tons owned by Elias Hasket Derby in 1799 and 1800, which is based on a watercolor by Michele Felice Corne housed at the museum. The border is intricately decorated with the House Flags, which served as the private signals for twelve of Salem's commercial houses, making it a historical collectible celebrating Salem's maritime trading history.
